Fashion Friday | California Dreaming Mural

IMG_2338.JPG

We have been getting a mix of interesting weather in Los Angeles this winter. The sunshine tax we pay for living here has definitely not been worth it this winter. In my thirteen years of being a local, I don't recall the winters ever being this way before. One day it will be 70 degrees and sunny and then it will rain for three days straight. I'm not complaining, as I am well aware that in spite of all the rain we've had, we are still in a drought. On the bright side though, I put a little spring into my step after seeing this freshly painted mural in Culver City. It's huge - 26 feet X 74 feet - and was completed February 1st by artist Ricardo Gonzalez of It's A Living.  It's at the Chinese Laundry headquarters and faces East, so if the sun is shining, I recommend going in the late afternoon. If it's overcast and cloudy go anytime, as you won't get a strange shadow that is typically on it all morning and early afternoon.

We caught the very last bit of light and Alisha from Lish Creative worked her magic and snapped these photos just in time. I paired the Cynthia Floral Skirt in Fuchsia/Teal/White from Cents of Style with a simple white long sleeve shirt and a borrowed denim jacket (the embroidery says "mommy" in case you are trying to read it). The bright and poppy colors of the skirt paired with these grey boots are my new favorite combination. And ladies, there may have never been a more comfortable pencil skirt. Ever. Because of the stretchy fabric and versatile colors, I may have worn it two days in a row. I simply changed it up with a black jacket and a different white tee shirt. I also paired it with my yellow Tieks and it might be what I will be living in all Spring. It would look amazing paired with these fuchsia Tieks, which are the next on my wishlist. You can see all the Fashion Friday floral skirts here. DISCOUNT CODE for a limited time, all floral skirts are $19.95 with the code FLORAL STORY!

Happy Friday and let me know in the comments if you make it to this mural!

I donut know what to do...

Donut coloring page

How adorable is this coloring by @lamardescrap? I just love the colors she used and how fun and fresh it is. Love seeing what all you share under #amytangerine on Instagram - there are over 22,000 photos!

Lately I have found myself in an interesting place where I am super busy (and happy) but slightly overwhelmed. Okay, maybe a little more than slightly. I am trying to stay focused while still infusing fun and creativity into my everyday. I'm trying to inspire and put out regular content on my YouTube channel, Instagram feed and trying to get better at Facebook. Social media feels like a full-time job alone.

So I am in a strange place and I am not sure how to describe it. I'm very happy and grateful and feeling more inspired than ever. Collaborations of all kinds keep coming my way. But I am thinking I need to pull back on a few projects and only focus my time and energy on a couple big ones for the rest of the year. There are classes on the schedule that I will be traveling to teach for and I have plenty of client scrapbooks to keep me and my team busy for the res of 2016. Yet there are opportunities that keep popping up that I want to say yes to. But I don't want to crash and burn and feel like I've let people down. Sorry to be slightly vague as there are some cool things in the works and I am not great at saying no to things, but it's all getting to be a little too much lately. I have heard good things about virtual assistants but I have no idea how to even approach that. Plus I am a people person - will I even like having someone work with me who I haven't ever met in person? I try and keep a good head on my shoulders by doing the things that energize me. I think I've found a pretty decent work out routine that I am loving which includes running a couple days a week and both yoga and Soul Cycle once a week. It can be hectic making time for these things but I know my health is a priority. Creative projects have been going well and we are loving the feedback and enthusiasm for our online brush lettering course we've worked so hard to put together.

Anyway, I just wanted to keep you all posted on what's happening around here. I'd love if I could just keep things fun and lighthearted all the time. And if I could pull off wearing skirts from the kids section more than just for this fun photo taken by Alishylishy, I would.

Would love to hear your thoughts on how you deal with feeling overwhelmed and if you have tips on staying focused!

Wardrobe Wednesday with Fevrie

It's finally starting to feel like fall in Los Angeles (well, we have had a couple cooler days here and there anyway). For the transition, I love pieces like this Promise dress from Fevrie. I styled it more as a tunic it over jeans, though I think it would look cute with leggings and boots. The embroidered detailing is lovely and the fabric is flowy and super comfortable. The overall look has a sophisticated boho chic vibe to me, and I think that's what I am going for this season. I prefer uncomplicated comfort most of the time anyway, which makes this the perfect top to transition not just seasons, but also from day to night.

DIY Bus T-Shirt

DIY Bus T-Shirt | Amy Tangerine

As much as I didn't want to go too crazy for Jack's 2nd birthday party this weekend, I may have already gone a bit overboard. We didn't do printed invites, but we did send out a Paperless Post with an awesome card that Ann-Marie designed. Although I didn't share anything from his first birthday, I plan on sharing photos and maybe even do a video of the backyard festivities. On the invitation, we have this yellow bus. It's kind of a "wheels on the bus" theme party, because he sings that song at least 10 times a day. The bus icon will be appearing throughout the party. We had planned on stitching him a shirt to wear, but being a bit pressed for time, I decided to do something a bit easier.

I finally got my Silhouette Cameo out of the box for the first time (I still do love my Silhouette SD from many years ago!). I loaded it up with the yellow flocking fabric that comes with the Heat Transfer Starter Kit. The image needs to be reversed and the white-ish side needs to be face up.

I trimmed around the design and peeled away the outer parts as well as the inner bits, basically taking everything away that wasn't going to be pressed onto the tee shirt.

I recently replaced my old heat press from 2002 when I first started my tee shirt collection. It's 13 years old and still works, and I will probably just sell it on craigslist or donate it to a school if that's a possibility. I'm going to be collaborating with Pro World Inc on a series of posts and fun things, so stay tuned about those details coming soon! Pro World Inc suggested their TransPro 15x15 heat press, so that is what I decided to get. I let it heat up to 350 degrees and then pre-pressed my garment for 10 seconds.

After getting the placement just where I wanted it to be, I pressed it down again, this time for 20 seconds. It takes a bit of muscle to get it to lock firmly, but then you are free to let go of the handle until it beeps.

Once it cooled down, I peeled off the clear transfer

Love the results and can't wait for Jack to wear this shirt all through the town!

If you could design your own shirt, what would you put on it? I am dreaming up lots of ideas these days for DIY projects, and maybe even a video. Let me know your ideas in the comments. If your idea is chosen, I will make it and send it to you!
