Make What You Love with Katie Sabin

032-Katie-Sabin.jpg

I was so happy to speak with today’s guest, Katie Sabin. Katie is a maker who got started on her creative journey after having her twins and realizing she wanted to create something for herself. Today she shares how she got started with her Etsy shop and how her husband helped her come up with her business name, Just Add Sunshine. We discuss imposter syndrome and how she struggled with identifying as a “creative” and “artist”. Like me, Katie feels most alive when making things with her hands. In fact, she’s made it a practice to spend time creating every single day because it helps her feel more like herself.

What’s in this episode:

  • How Katie got her start on her creative journey after having her twins

  • How she got started selling at craft shows

  • Getting started with her Etsy shop

  • How Katie and her husband came up with her business name

  • Why she struggled to identify with being called a “creative” and an “artist”

  • How Katie’s home is set up for her work

  • Where she finds her inspiration for her work

  • How Katie and Amy met each other

  • How she got into creating stickers

  • What balance means to Katie and how she manages her role as a mom, wife and creator

  • How exercise has helped Katie in all areas of her life

  • Where Katie wants to go next with her business

  • How she crafts a life that she loves by surrounding herself with things and people that she loves and finding inspiration from things around her

  • Katie’s advice for someone wanting to make their hobby a side business

  • Her advice for staying positive during hard times

Thankful

From our house to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!

happy thanksgiving by amy tangerine

As we take time to pause and give thanks, I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you following along on this journey. Whether you are a quiet observer or someone who regularly responds to these emails and comments on my social media posts, I am grateful for you. If you're looking for sparks of inspiration and feel encouraged by the videos I make or the captions you read on Instagram, I hope you continue to find joy and confidence through creativity.

I made a little studio update video with no make up on and an apology for something that I thought needed to be addressed since I was trying something that just didn’t work out.

2020 planner update: The first batch of pre-orders for my 2020 planner collaboration with Archer and Olive sold out and the next batch is available for pre-order now and will start shipping on Dec 15. Get ready for your best year yet. There's more info in this video, and once I get mine in my hands, I will be sure to make another video with some more detailed shots. Use code AMY10 to get 10% off! You don't want to miss out, as they are limited edition! As always, thanks for your continued support and love!

DreamBox deal!

One of the ways I hope to connect with all of you more in the new year is by sharing even more behind the scenes of what happens in the studio. While projects are fun to see when finished, I think there's something pretty cool about seeing the process unfold. It can be messy at times, but I have found that I always learn the most by trying something new and fresh and if it doesn't turn out the way I expected, there are wonderful lessons that can be extracted. You win some, you learn some.

It's been one year since the Dreambox totally transformed the studio and changed everything. (Video walk through is on my YouTube channel in case you missed it.) If you order now, it'll arrive before Christmas and that's not even the best part... The first 500 people to purchase a DreamBox will receive a *free* Power Package. And as a bonus, if you use my link and codes (the more you spend, the more you save), I'm offering a free printable for your DreamBox organizer!
